Common Types of Brake Problems
To the layperson, the practice of braking a vehicle appears simple, and that’s the way it’s supposed to be. Behind the scenes though, a car’s braking system is a sophisticated combination of parts. Discs/drums, shoes, brake pads, calipers, wheel cylinders, and brake fluid work in harmony to ensure your vehicle stops as quickly as you need it to. Accounting for use, age, friction, and heat, among others, your brake system is vulnerable to a multitude of issues that can crop up. Over time, brake pads wear and become less effective. Once they wear down to a certain point, they will start to scrape against the rotors, which can cause rotor damage (which can be an expensive brake repair job). Rust can occur, rotors can become uneven, the brake caliper’s release can be compromised, the pistons can become sticky… the list goes on for possible problems.
